YAKIMA, Wash.-A teenager suspected of murder was arrested in Yakima on June 13.
The 17-year-old male was arrested in connection to a June 2021 murder of Oscar Hondal-Lopez in the area of W. Prasch Avenue and Cornell Avenue.
“Although this arrest will not restore the great loss our community suffered, it is a step towards justice,” YPD Chief Mathew Murray said of the arrest.
The arrest is the third in connection to the murder, following the 2021 arrest of two other suspects.
The shooting happened when a man and his wife, who were driving around looking for the address of a house that was for sale in South Yakima, were confronted by gang members in a car, according to Yakima Police.
The couple were reportedly chased by the gang members, who then fired several shots into the victim’s car, hitting the man who was driving and killing him, while injuring his wife.
The teenaged suspect was booked on suspicion of 1st Degree Murder, 1st Degree Assault, Drive by Shooting and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm at a location in Kittitas, according to a YPD post on the arrest.
