Teenager hit, killed by train while fishing near Finley

FINLEY, Wash.-A teenager is dead after being hit by a train on Sunday, July 21.

Benton County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area of Piert/Riek Road around 9:30 a.m. for reports of a 16-year-old boy who had been hit by a train.

The teen and two other people were fishing in the area around 6:30 a.m. when he had a problem with his fishing pole, stopped fishing and went and sat on the railroad tracks, according to the BCSO.

The two people who were still fishing tried to warn the teen by yelling at him and trying to get to him when they heard a train coming, however, he seemed to be sleeping and due to the steep terrain they could not get to him in time.

According to the BCSO, the incident appears to have been an accident, however, the investigation is ongoing.
