Survivor is gearing up for another season of backstabbing and blindsides this fall as it continues to march ever closer to that milestone 50th season, which will film next summer. Season 47 is set to premiere tonight, September 18, on CBS with 18 brand new castaways battling it out for the title of Sole Survivor and the $1 million prize.

Survivor 46 aired earlier this year and wrapped up on May 22, 2024, which saw Kenzie Petty crowned champion over fellow finalists Charlie Davis and Ben Katzman. Scroll down to learn all the latest news about Survivor 47.

Is Survivor new tonight?

The 47th season is scheduled to premiere on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, with a special two-hour episode starting at 8/7c. Further episodes will air weekly on Wednesdays at 8/7c and, just like with Seasons 45 and 46, the remaining episodes will all be 90 minutes long, followed by a three-hour finale.

Here’s the official episode description for Survivor Season 47 Episode 1, titled “One Glorious and Perfect Episode”: “Eighteen new castaways will be abandoned on the breathtaking islands of Fiji, where they must learn to adapt or they will be voted out. Tribes must quickly pick up the pieces in the first challenge of the season to earn a pot, machete and flint. Then, two castaways are chosen to go on a journey to find the X that marks the spot.”

Where will Survivor 47 take place?

As usual, Survivor‘s 47th season was filmed in Fiji’s Mamanuca Islands, which has become the show’s permanent home since Season 33, Millennials vs. Gen-X, in 2016.

Will Jeff Probst return?

Of course! Survivor‘s long-time host and executive producer Jeff Probst will be back to preside over immunity challenges and tribal councils. The iconic host has been with the show since it premiered in 2000 and shows no signs of slowing down.

Probst also received an Emmy nomination for Best Reality Host yesterday, July 17, his first nod in 13 years. He previously won the category four times in a row between 2008 and 2011.

Who is in the Survivor 47 cast?

Robert Voets / CBS

A preview that aired during the Survivor 46 finale featured a familiar face: Pod Save America host and former speechwriter for President Barack Obama Jon Lovett. Other cast members this season include an ER doctor, a nurse, an e-sports commentator and a sports reporter, a radio show host, a flight attendant, a corporate lawyer, and an AI research assistant. In a preview interview with TV Insider, Probst revealed why they cast a relatively famous face like Lovett.

“Having somebody like Jon on, from a storytelling standpoint, is a gift because he’s just such a good orator,” Probst said. “Here’s a guy that in his previous life wrote speeches for the President of the United States, Obama. So you know that he can handle himself in a crisis where there might be a shifting power dynamic happening, and he has to quickly read that and then just as fast he has to fashion an answer or a statement or an argument that will compel people in his tribe to do what he wants them to do. That’s a great skill to have in a game like this.”

As with recent seasons, Survivor 47 will feature 18 castaways divided into three tribes of six. The tribe names are Gata (yellow), Lavo (orange), and Tuku (blue).

Is there a Survivor 47 Preview?

Yes! CBS aired a short preview during the Survivor 46 finale back in May. You can watch the clip below.

Who is hosting the Survivor 47 aftershow, the On Fire podcast?

Probst and Jay Wolff will return as hosts for the official Survivor podcast, which releases new episodes after new episodes of Survivor air on Wednesdays. Joining them as cohost this season is Charlie Davis, who came in second place in Survivor 46. Probst previously told TV Insider that Charlie was the most-requested cohost brought up by fans when they asked for input from viewers.
