KENNEWICK, Wash.- Scouting America’s Blue Mountain Council serves Southeastern Washington and Northeastern Oregon. Scouting of America is a youth organization developing life skills and teaching citizenship.
Teddy Herrera has been a scout with Blue Mountain Council for eight years. He said he has learned amazing skills that will help him later in life. “In 10 years time, you still remember things that you learned when you were 10 years old,” said Herrera.
David Cannon, a Blue Mountain scout leader said the Blue Mountain scouts are focused on several holiday fundraisers.
“All of the proceeds go to help individual scouts locally,” said Cannon.
One of the campaigns they are working on is selling the “Big Time Savings” book in Benton and Franklin Counties, making a great stocking stuffer for Christmas.
“When you buy from a nonprofit and you help support their mission really you give twice,” said Cannon. “You give once to these local kids and you give once to whoever’s stocking you put it in.”
The Blue Mountain Council is partnering with Holiday Tree Farms again to host a Christmas Tree sale. Last year, troops in the Columbia Basin raised over $7000 to help scouts participate in programs, annual registration costs, merit badges and Eagle Scout projects.
If you are still looking for a Christmas tree, scouts will drop off and pick up the tree for you. Orders placed after November 30th will be delivered by the next day if in the Tri-Cities and Saturdays if you live in Prosser. Tree pickup and disposal will occur on January 4th.
