SUNNYSIDE, Wash.-Mike Gonzalez is officially the Sunnyside City Manager after agreeing to a contract with City Council on July 29.
The Sunnyside City Council unanimously approved a contract for Gonzalez, the former Franklin County Administrator, after a few revisions at a special council meeting.
According to the council, they wanted to have a contract in place with Gonzalez by Aug. 1.
“I really wanted to thank the council or this opportunity,” Gonzalez said. “I do feel like the luckiest person in the world.”
The council approved the contract for Gonzalez after revising the severance from four to six months and inserting a provision that Gonzalez cannot involve himself in political campaigning during employee time.
“I’m going to work my tail off to make this the best city in the Pacific Northwest,” Gonzalez said after his contract was approved.
