YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. — The State Fire Marshal’s Office authorized state resources for fires in Wapato and Zillah on June 15.

Both fires began burning Saturday afternoon, with the fire in Zillah, known as the Beam Road Fire, estimated to have burned close to 10,000 acres and growing. LEVEL 2: GET SET evacuation continued to be in place Sunday morning for residents on Beam Road and Houghton Road.

The fire outside of Wapato, known as the Camas Road Fire, burned an estimated 150 acres, including a home and some cars, and has not been contained. LEVEL 1: READY evacuations were in place until about 7 p.m. Both fires threatened main power lines, causing Pacific Power to shut down power for hours for more than 10,000 residents across both areas. The Pacific Power outage map showed power had been restored Sunday morning.

According to the Marshal’s Office, four fire strike teams were sent to Zillah, while two teams were sent to Wapato.

Yakima Fire District 5 posted on Facebook early Sunday morning warning residents that they will continue to see smoke and flames in these areas and they should not call 911.
