KENNEWICK, Wash. – A 17-year-old Southridge High School student was booked into the Benton Franklin Juvenile Justice Center on Wed., Feb. 28 for possessing an explosive device, according to a press release from the Kennewick Police Department.
KPD says the SHS Kennewick Police School Resource Officer received a report from a student that they believed another student was in possession of an explosive device.
KPD detectives responded to investigate and speak with the student, finding that there was no active threat in the area and that the device was not at the school.
A search warrant was received and the Richland Police Bomb Squad searched a home in the 1400 block of South Harrison Street where a device was found and rendered safe by bomb techs.
KPD says there is no threat to anyone near the home. Detectives have not found any threats made to any area schools or people.
The 17-year-old in possession of the device was booked for charges of possession of an explosive device and possession or manufacturing of an incendiary device.
