Social Media Threats in Kennewick School District Currently Under Investigation

KENNEWICK, Wash.- According to the Kennewick School District, social media threats were made to Southridge and Kennewick High School today.

Kennewick School District received reports of threats being made over the social media platform Snapchat.

A screenshot was being shared on Snapchat that stated someone would “Shoot up” the school at 9:30 a.m. and would be wearing all black.

Kennewick Police are currently investigating the reports. These threats are a federal crime according to the FBI.

According to KSD, no credible threat has been found at this time.

As a precaution law enforcement presence has been increased at all schools this morning.

According to KSD, it was later found that threats were made towards Highlands Middle School as well.

According to the FBI making these kinds of threats is a federal crime punishable with more than 2 years in jail.
