WHITE SWAN, Wash. – The Slide Ranch Fire in White Swan has been fully contained as of Tue., July 9, just over two weeks since it started.

Yakama Agency Bureau of Indian Affairs Superintendent Chad Wallace says the fire burned 3,106 acres and destroyed 20 homes.

Evacuations were in place in the White Swan area, reaching level 3 (GO NOW) in some areas before being dropped to level 1 (BE READY).

A second smaller fire had burned 47 acres nearby on June 26 and was caused by strong winds blowing embers outside the perimeter surrounding the fire, according to Yakima County Fire District 5 Captain JJ Inhen.

A donation center was opened by community members in the aftermath in which clothing and food were donated to those who lost their homes in the fire.

The cause of the fire is still currently unknown, however the Northwest Interagency Coordination Center says it was likely human caused.
