Skippers damaged by fire in Kennewick

KENNEWICK, Wash.-The Kennewick Fire Department is currently responding to a fire at Skippers restaurant at 3307 W. Kennewick Avenue.

Smoke could be seen coming from the building when firefighters arrived on scene around 10:45 a.m.

The restaurant was closed at the time of the fire, but an employee was inside preparing food and noticed smoke coming from the deep fryer after turning it on, according to Deputy Fire Chief Michael Heffner.

The building’s fire suppression system came on and firefighters applied water and foam to the fire.

No injuries were reported in the fire and damage to the restaurant was limited to the area around the deep fryer, according to Deputy Chief Heffner.

Skippers is expected to remain closed for at least a few days as the damage is fixed.
