Sheriff’s offices across the region issue alerts as scammers pose as deputies

TRI-CITIES, Wash. – Multiple sheriff’s offices across eastern and central Washington are reporting that scammers are calling residents and pretending to be deputies.

The Richland Police Department reports that scammers are calling as “Deputy Holen” from Benton County. The number the scammer is calling from is not associated with the Benton County Civil Division.

Anyone in Benton County that receives a suspicious call is asked to contact non-emergency dispatch at 509-628-0333.

The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office also reports that scammers are pretending to be Deputies Jake Church and Max James from its office. The scammers reportedly tell residents that they have a felony warrant and that they must pay money to clear it by paying with a money order from a grocery store.

Yakima County residents that receive a suspicious call should contact YCSO at 509-574-2500.

Lastly, the Walla Walla County Sheriff’s Office says a man is calling residents as Sgt. Allen and Sgt. Greco and is also threatening them with warrants.

Walla Walla County residents who receive a suspicious call are asked to call 509-524-5400 and reference case number 2024-00008253.
