Shelter-in-place lifted for area near Les Schwab fire in Yakima

YAKIMA, Wash.- UPDATE. 2:23 p.m. The shelter in place for the area near the Les Schwab tire store fire at 2002 S. 1st Street in Yakima has been lifted, according to Yakima Valley Emergency Management.

Update 11:40 a.m. Yakima Valley Emergency Management issued a shelter-in-place for those living around the Les Schwab on 1st Street in Yakima.

Impacted areas include:

E. Washington Avenue at Railroad Tracks at Forney Road going East to I-82.North on Rudkin Road to Nob Hill Blvd.West of Nob Hill Blvd. to Railroad Tracks.South from Nob Hill Blvd./Railroad Tracks to Washington Avenue.

YVEM recommends turning HVAC systems off and sealing all doors and windows.

Fire crews are on scene of a large commercial structure fire that is impacting traffic on S. 1st Street in Yakima.

Yakima police and firefighters responded to the fire at Les Schwab at 2002 S. 1st Street around 6:30 a.m.

Traffic is now blocked on S. 1st Street north from Washington Avenue and south from Mead Avenue, according to a YPD social media post.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area and find alternate routes if possible.
