SELAH, Wash.-The Selah Fire Department will be testing hydrants throughout the city starting Oct. 17.
Residents living near hydrants or with hydrants on their property are being asked to help clear vegetation in a three foot radius around hydrants within the city limits.
According to Selah FD, clearing vegetation away from hydrants helps the testing process and allows for quicker response time in the case of a fire.
The flow testing is done yearly as part of Selah FD’s hydrant testing program and is expected to be completed by Nov. 30. Anyone with any questions about a hydrant on or near their property should contact James Lange at 698-7312.
Some residents may experience rust-colored water during or after the testing, according to the Selah FD.
Residents should stop using their inside water if it is rust-colored and run water from an outside source until the rust-color disappears.
