Second motorcyclist dead after DUI crash north of Selah, driver to be arraigned

SELAH, Wash. – A second motorcyclist has died following a DUI crash on SR 821 north of Selah on Fri., June 21.

According to a probable cause document, a driver heading northbound allegedly tried taking a left turn into Sundown Ranch while eight motorcycles were driving southbound. The driver hit the lead motorcyclist, Rodney Ahrens, 69, who was killed in the crash.

Following Ahrens was Randy Agnew, 75, who hit the car and was ejected, and a third motorcycle that had two riders on it. The riders avoided the car but went down.

The riders on the third motorcycle were hospitalized, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Agnew died later that evening during emergency surgery at Harborview Medical Center.

An investigation into the driver found that they had been drinking. They were arrested and are currently being held under vehicular assault and homicide charges with $150,000 bail.

The driver’s arraignment is scheduled for July 8.
