WHITE SWAN, Wash. – A second fire burned in the White Swan area on Wednesday, according to Yakima Valley Emergency Management.

In an update from Fire Information Officer Tim McKern, a spot fire was found over the containment lines of the Slide Ranch Fire at 2:30 p.m. during a wind and dust storm.

Yakima County Fire District 5 Captain JJ Inhen said the high winds blew embers outside the perimeter, starting a fire on some nearby trees.

The fire grew to 47 acres in size before being contained by an aggressive attack by crews. A new perimeter line was put in place and air support was used.

Inhen says that the Yakama Nation will have an engine patrolling throughout the night. No new damage to nearby structures or property were reported.

The nearby Slide Ranch Fire has burned 3,054 acres in the White Swan area and caused level 1 (BE READY) evacuations in the area.
