A 12-year-old returned to his home in College Place for the weekend from Seattle Children’s, and arrived to a street full of fire trucks, police officers, community members in their cars and even a tank from the Sheriff’s office lined up on the street.
Jayden Robertson, who is battling cancer, was welcomed by the community with banners and hugs, and he only had positive emotions about seeing the people there to greet him.
“It was really exciting, fun to see my friends and family. Exciting mostly,” he said.
Jayden has had a positive outlook throughout his experience, and he has always had a goal of becoming a K-9 handler because of his love for animals.
He has trained puppies in the past and his mom, Tara Robertson, said her service dog, Beretta, has made a huge impact on Jayden’s life.
“She is from Services Peace Warriors. They are a nonprofit organization that raises and trains service dogs for veterans at no cost,” Tara said. “So he also plays a big role in that. He has puppy raised three puppies to become future service dogs for veterans and first responders. He was working on his last one when he was diagnosed.”
Tara and Jayden said Beretta is an amazing asset and has helped them through both good and bad times; Jayden even said he is happy Beretta chose his mom as her person.
