COLLEGE PLACE, Wash.-A group of Sager Middle School students recently earned top honors at the regional Destination Imagination competition in Richland.
The squad, comprised of 29 seventh and eighth graders and led by teacher and coach Ted Knauft, competed in STEM challenges with teams from across the region and will now compete at the State Competition at Southridge High on March. 23.

“Sager’s teams represented extremely well at the regional tournament,” said Knauft. “It is very rare to have all five teams move on to the state tournament.”
Sager Middle School honors:
Science Competition: “Future Fixers,” led by Addyson Svilich and Nahlani Young won with “Blast from the Past,” a blend of art and science.Engineering Competition: Sager teams took first and second place for designing a modular device for launching bean bags in “Going the Distance.”Fine Arts Category: “Thieves of Thebes,” led by Katelyn Alexander, claimed first place, winning the prestigious DaVinci Award.Instant Challenge: Sager students brought home three first place finishes and two second place finishes
