Richland police share tips on keeping kids warm and safe in the car

RICHLAND, Wash. – The Richland Police Department has shared a few tips on how to keep kids warm and safe while traveling this winter season.

According to the Department’s Facebook post, RPD recommends:

Avoiding bulky coats. Bulky clothing may interfere with car seat harnesses making them less effective in a crash.Utilize “Car Seat Covers”. Instead of the big jackets, drape a blanket or poncho over the child after ensuring they’re buckled in properly. Pre-warm the car. As long as you don’t leave the car unattended, warming up a vehicle is an easy way to ensure that the inside temperature is comfortable for kids, especially on icy mornings. Keep extra warm clothing in the car. Keep an extra pair of mittens, hats, blankets, and coats in case it gets too cold.
