RICHLAND, Wash.-A recent data breach has affected the City of Richland and Benton County Emergency Systems servers.
The City confirmed the breach that may have compromised the personal information of residents on May 17.
According to a press release on the incident, Richland’s cybersecurity systems detected unauthorized access to the city’s servers on May 15.
The breach mostly impacted City servers and may have exposed personal information, including but not limited to names, addresses, contact details, and possibly sensitive data.
As soon as Richland learned of the breach, incident response protocol was started to contain the breach and strengthen security.
Richland has also hired a cybersecurity consultant to perform a security assessment, according to today’s press release.
The extent of the breach is still under investigation and Richland says it will release more information, including how residents can take measures to protect their information next week.
