WASHINGTON, D.C. – Republicans are getting closer to securing the majority in the House of Representatives. With 18 seats still undecided, the GOP currently holds 214 seats and needs just four more to clinch the majority.
In the local area, all seats have been called, leaving no uncertainty.
House Republican leadership votes were initially set for tomorrow, but there is now some uncertainty surrounding them. Votes were planned for the House Republican Conference Chair position.
Elise Stefanik, who was running for the position, has decided to exit the race. Her departure will lead to a special election in New York. New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s office has yet to comment on the situation.
In a statement, the President-elect described Stefanik as “a strong, tough, and America-first fighter.” This appointment is significant in the ongoing negotiations for peace in the Middle East and Ukraine.
