WASHINGTON STATE.-Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers announced that she will not seek re-election to Congress in November, retiring after almost 20 years in the House and legislators from across Washington have released statements on her retirement.

“After much prayer and reflection, I’ve decided the time has come to serve the people of Eastern Washington in new ways,” Rep. McMorris Rodgers said in a statement announcing she will not seek another term.

NonStop Local’s Liz Burch reached out to McMorris Rodgers’ Office for a statement on her announcement, but has not heard back yet.

Rep. McMorris Rodgers’ full announcement is available to read online.

Rep. Dan Newhouse provided the following statement after hearing that Rep. McMorris Rodgers would not seek re-election:

“Cathy has been a conservative champion for Washington state and this country. Her constituents in eastern Washington, and Congress as an institution, are better off because of her dedicated service. As a friend I wish her the very best in wherever the next chapter takes her.”

King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn issued the following statement:

“During her nearly 20 years as a Congresswoman, Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers has developed a reputation as being fair-minded, honest, and kind to everyone. She is a trailblazer in Congress and a dedicated public servant for the people she represents. Her choice not to run for re-election is a loss for all of Washington State, as we are losing an excellent member of Congress with significant influence in D.C. I wish her all the best in her future endeavors.”

NonStop Local will continue to update this article with more reactions from regional politicians and legislators on the announcement that Rep. McMorris Rodgers will not be seeking re-election as we receive them.
