Reconfiguration of Plaza Way and West Tietan Street in Walla Walla set for August

0

WALLA WALLA, Wash.-Street closures will be in place on Tietan Street for reconfiguration of the east/west travel lanes at the intersection of Plaza Way and West Tietan Street.

According to the City of Walla Walla, the closures will be in place from 12 a.m. to 6 a.m. on Aug. 18 and 19.

The Plaza/Tietan intersection was reconfigured in 2021 based on Washington Department of Transportation Traffic Studies.

Since the initial reconfiguration, drivers in the area have expressed concerns and confusion over both eastbound and westbound traffic in the center lane, according to a press release on the project from the City of Walla Walla.

During the upcoming reconfiguration project in Aug., the intersection will be changed to again include dedicated left-turn lanes in both the eastbound and westbound directions, as well as lanes used for both right turns and through traffic.

The north/south lanes of the intersection will not be changed and signage will be in place illustrating the changes.

Walla Walla residents with any questions about the reconfiguration can contact the city’s Engineering Department at 509-527-4537.
