The public is invited to take part in discussions over modifications to the Hanford Dangerous Waste Permit.
If approved, the Department of Energy (DOE) said in its public meeting notice that the modifications would allow the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant’s Low-Activity Waste Facility export bay to be added to the permit as an additional container storage area.
The DOE said the extra container storage is needed to stage sealed waste containers until they can be disposed of at Hanford’s Integrated Disposal Facility. The export bay storage would supplement existing storage in the facility’s transportation staging area.
A 60-day comment period runs from Jan. 13 through March 14, 2025. The hybrid public meeting will be held Wednesday, January 29, at 5:30 p.m. in the Gallery Room of the Richland Public Library, 955 Northgate Drive.
