PROSSER, Wash. – A ninth grader from Prosser High School recently spent a week as a page for Washington State Senator Perry Dozier (R), according to a press release.
Olivia Smasne, 14, was one of 21 students who worked as a page during the sixth week of the 2024 legislative session as part of the Senate Page Program.
“I wanted to become a page because I was eager to learn more about our government and knew it would be an amazing opportunity,” said Smasne.
The Senate Page Program allows Washington students to work in the Legislature for a week. Students transport documents, deliver messages and mail, attend page school to learn about legislative processes and draft their own bills and engage in a mock committee.
“I am so happy that Olivia took the time to learn more about the legislative process,” said Sen. Dozier, who represents Walla Walla County and parts of Benton and Franklin counties. “She did an amazing job this week, and I look forward to seeing more from her.”
Students who are interested in the Senate Page Program are encouraged to learn more online.
