PASCO, Wash.-The potential buyer of the Out And About in Pasco is reportedly backing out of the proposed deal.

OK Auto Sales announced that they would not be purchasing the club in a social media post on Aug. 26, saying:

“I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ+ community. It was not my intent to hurt anyone and I believe there is a huge misunderstanding. However, I realize that intent does not equal impact and for that, I am deeply sorry. I would like to announce that I am backing out of the deal and no longer buying Out and About. Moving forward, I would like the club to remain as a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community.”

The Out And About is an LGBTQ+ friendly venue at 327 W. Lewis Street in downtown Pasco and its closure and potential sale sparked reactions throughout the Tri-Cities.

According to Out And About patron Jay Chavez, who organized dance parties, drag shows and game nights at the club, as well as working as a bartender, the venue has been a cornerstone of the LGBTQ+ community in the area since 1996.

“Out And About wasn’t just a bar,” Chavez said. “This bar represented unity, acceptance, and a sense of belonging that wasn’t always easy to find in our area. The memories and experiences I gained there will stay with me forever, and I know many others feel the same way.”

At this time it is unknown if another buyer will step in or if the Out And About will remain on the market. A NonStop Local reporter is working on the ongoing story.
