TOPPENISH, Wash.-A Level 3: GO NOW evacuation notice has been issued for Toppenish residents in a half-mile radius from the intersection of Buena Way and McDonald Rd. due to a propane tank explosion and fire according to Yakima Valley Emergency Management.
Toppenish Middle School is being evacuated, with students being transported to Valley View Elementary according to the Toppenish school district. Parents are asked to pick up students at Valley View as soon as possible.
Multiple fire, law enforcement and emergency organizations are currently on scene of the explosion and fire reportedly near the Sugar Beet Factory.
According to the Department of Transportaion SR 22 is closed in both directions north of Toppenish at milepost 2.3.
WSP Troopers are on scene of a traffic closure due to the hazmat situation at I-82 eastbound at exit 50 into Toppenish according to a social media post.
