PASCO, Wash. – Project Goodwill is a competitive fashion show where local high school students compete for money to support the clubs they belong to. Seven clubs are vying for the prize at the Pasco Red Lion across from Columbia Basin College.
The clubs must use materials from Goodwill to create fashions in three categories: paper creation, donation box creation, and off-the-rack creation.
Students not only compete for money but also get to show off their creativity.
Paula Cartagena, a Southridge High School student and her group representing FCCLA, created a dress out of paper.
“It took my group and I a week or two,” Cartagena said. “We had to think about all the different ways to incorporate the paper and materials for it.”
Cartagena said she found construction paper and clothes at Goodwill.
Two other students, Mariah Vargas and Jacob Berghofer, also crafted fashion creations.
Vargas made a purse and jewelry out of magazines and created a dress. However, she wouldn’t share the dress because she said she wanted people to come to the fashion show to see it.
Jacob made parachute pants and will announce the creations at tonight’s fashion show.
