KENNEWICK, Wash. – The Kennewick Police Department found a gun in a student’s car at Kennewick High School following an investigation prompted by a parent’s report.
The investigation began after a parent reported that their student had a gun pointed at them by another student over the holiday break. KPD confronted the student in question as she arrived at school.
After obtaining a search warrant, officers discovered the gun in the glove box of her car on school grounds. There was no indication that the student intended to use the gun on school grounds, and no threats were made toward students or staff.
Police seized the gun and the car. The student was booked into Benton County Jail on a felony hold for unlawful possession of a firearm in the second degree. She also faces a weapons charge related to the incident over winter break.
