FRANKLIN COUNTY, Wash.- Police arrested a drunk driver who fled the scene of a critical accident.
Franklin County Sheriff’s officer Jacob Safford says police arrived at old Highway 17 and 1st Ave in Mesa around 9 p.m. on Saturday, August 2, to find two totaled cars.
According to police, the suspect ran a stop sign at the intersection and struck the victim’s car, putting the vehicle on its side and pushing the victim about 100 ft. The impact caused both cars to catch fire.
Officers closed the road around 9:23 p.m.
The victim was treated on scene with minor injuries. The suspect fled on foot and was caught nearly a mile away in a home.
Police took the suspect into custody and booked them on DUI and felony hit-and-run charges. After the suspect was apprehended, police reopened the road around 11:30 p.m.
