BENTON COUNTY, Wash. – The Pit Bull Pen, a longtime animal rescue nonprofit near Benton City, could be shutting their doors amid a legal dispute.
Trish Trickit, the Owner and Executive Director of the Pit Bull Pen, says that she can’t get too into detail about the dispute per her attorney’s advice. However, she was able to offer insight into the day-to-day operations and how they were dealing with it.
“So we’re trying to figure out options, maybe purchase. They declined leasing at this point. And so we’re looking for alternatives and support,” said Trickit.
The Pit Bull Pen has been taking care of dogs for nearly 15 years, and offers services like fostering, activities, medical attention, and quarantines. Trickit hopes to even build an agility course out at the back of the property should everything work in their favor.
“We’ve invested our heart and soul into this facility… And we really don’t want to have to move and start over and and be set back in our process,” said Trickit.
The Pit Bull Pen has a full staff of volunteers, who help with day-to-day activities, as well as social media and photography for the dogs.
Angela Jensen, a volunteer at the Pit Bull Pen, says that despite her worries, she knows Trickit and the organization will pull through.
“Knowing Trish’s personality and her steadfastness to never give up on a dog or a person or her rescue, I know that whatever happens, the rescue will continue,” says Jensen.
Trickit also says that even if the dispute isn’t settled, it wouldn’t be the end of the rescue. Instead, it would just limit the number of dogs they could take in.
