PFAS detected in Kennewick drinking water

KENNEWICK, Wash.-Low levels of per and polyfluoroalkyl substances or PFAS have been detected in Kennewick’s drinking water.

The City is informing the public that water samples tested positive for PFAS on March 12.

According to the City of Kennewick, the state action level for PFAS is 15.0 parts per trillion and the samples from Kennewick’s water tested at 17.9 ppt.

Residents do not need to take any precautionary actions before using their water, according to the City of Kennewick, however, the Washington State Department of Health recommends that if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or mixing infant formula with tap water, consider using an alternative source for drinking or mixing infant formula.

Kennewick will continue to monitor the water quality and will provide periodic updates on the situation if needed. Information about the water quality is available through the City of Kennewick website.
