WASHINGTON, D.C.-A Pendleton man will spend nine months in prison for his role in the breach of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.
Jonathanpeter Allen Klein, 24, who previously pleaded guilty to one count of civil disorder and one count of assaulting, resisting or impeding officers, was sentenced on Dec. 3.
According to the Department of Justice, Klein must also serve 36 months of supervised release and pay $3,000 in restitution.
Klein attended the “Stop the Steal” rally on Jan. 6, marched toward the Capitol and eventually entered the Capitol building where he threw an audio-visual container lid and hit a Metropolitan Police Department officer in the head, knocking them down, according to court documents.
The officer required assistance after being hit and was reportedly briefly lost consciousness and suffered emotional and mental distress from the incident, according to a DOJ press release on Klein’s sentencing.
Klein then entered the Capitol and recorded events inside before leaving the building and joining his brother, Mathew, and others at the north door.
The Kleins were part of a group that forced open the north door to the Capitol, causing an estimated $10,000 in damage, according to the DOJ.
Jonathanpeter and Mathew Klein were arrested in Oregon in March of 2021.
Mathew Klein also pleaded guilty to charges of civil disorder and entering a restricted building, he was sentenced to 90 days in jail and 36 months of supervised release on Nov. 14.
