A new high-security car ‘bunker’ for the ultra-rich has opened – and it’s already brimming with luxury motors.
SHY Automotive is a 50,000-square-foot car warehouse in West Sussex – located just 15 minutes from Gatwick Airport.
The firm says it offers the best “care, security, and discretion” for owners of top-value cars for £100 per week, per car.
Clients have the assurance of 24-hour security with 40 CCTV cameras – as well as required fingerprint recognition to enter the site.
Each one of the 590 cars the facility is home to is fitted with dual heat-activated sprinklers to protect them from any fires – and humidity levels are maintained at between 48 and 55 percent to prevent any moisture, rust, or corrosion from damaging a vehicle.
Upon arrival, a record is created for each supercar – with its condition meticulously captured through SHY’s custom camera array.
The vehicle then undergoes “thorough” preparation before it is secured on its own dedicated 2.2m x 4.8m ‘bed’ on a bespoke galvanized steel rack.
Each car will have its own drip trays and anchor point, as well as its own armored power supply for required battery conditioning.
Clients can access their vehicles at any time Monday to Friday between 9 am and 5 pm, or, out-of-hours upon request.
They can also make use of the luxurious offerings inside the facility – from the fully-fitted kitchen to the 75-inch smart TV with an integrated Sonos sound system, to a boardroom fitted for meetings or other corporate events.
Daniel Wood and Desmond Boughton, co-founders of SHY Automotive, said their facility was founded on a single question: “You wouldn’t put priceless artwork in a barn, so why would you do it with a car?”
They created SHY Automotive to “fill a significant gap in the market” – offering a level of care and security to high-value cars that has been “previously unseen in the industry”.
