Pedestrian killed in Kennewick hit-and-run crash identified

KENNEWICK, Wash. – UPDATE Dec. 5 3:26 p.m.

Kennewick Police have identified the pedestrian killed on Tue., Dec. 3 after being hit by a car on West 10th Avenue.

KPD says 34-year-old Rona Bowles died in the hospital following the crash. Her next-of-kin, who were out of state, have been notified.

An investigation found that a 23-year-old man from Kennewick was driving westbound on West 10th Avenue when he hit Bowles. She was reportedly wearing dark clothing and not crossing at a crosswalk.

The man drove from the collision, but ultimately stopped and called dispatch 13 minutes later to report his involvement.

Officers do not believe the man was driving under the influence and found that speed did not play a factor in the collision. He was released the same night.

KPD Patrol Officer Alex Holden says the pedestrian hit in the crash died at a hospital.

The woman who was hit, who has not been identified at this time, according to the KPD, was transported to Kadlec, where she died from her injuries.

The crash was initially believed to be a hit-and-run, however, the driver stopped on a nearby street, contacted law enforcement and reported their involvement.

A hit-and-run crash gave a pedestrian life-threatening injuries Tuesday night in Kennewick, according to the Kennewick Police Department.

KPD says at around 7:14 p.m., a female pedestrian was hit on West 10th Avenue near South Johnson Street. The woman was unresponsive and emergency personnel applied life saving measures.

The suspected person who hit the woman left the scene immediately

West 10th Avenue is closed from South Huntington Place to South Johnson Street for an investigation, per KPD.
