KENNEWICK, Wash. – A passing train is believed to have caused multiple wildfires along train tracks in Kennewick on July 13.
According to Fire Chief Chad Michael with the Kennewick Fire Department, crews were dispatched to multiple fires along the train tracks around 3 p.m.
Crews responded to three fires assumed to have been started by the train. The first near the 3000 block of West Canal Dr., a second near North Arthur St., and a third near the intersection of North Quay St. and West Deschutes Ave.
As of 3:45 p.m., all fires have been contained and extinguished. Crews will clear the scene once they are done with mop up.
No injuries or damaged structures have been reported.
The cause is believed to be due to the passing train but will be further investigated by KFD.
The train was stopped in response to the fire but will continue once deemed safe.
