PASCO, Wash.-The City of Pasco will lower the speed limit on Burns Rd. west of Broadmoor Blvd from 50 to 35 miles per hour following a recent speed study.
The City of Pasco recently annexed Burns Rd into the City limits and reevaluated the 50 mile per hour speed through a comprehensive speed study by CivTech, a traffic engineering consultancy.
According to the City of Pasco, the speed study found that:
None of Burns Road’s segments currently meet the tolerance levels of the posted speed limit.The highest average speed clocked was 43 mph, seven mph below the former limit.Most drivers on Burns Road are heading to residential areas.Speed limits on most of the City’s Principal Arterials range between 25 and 35 mph.The road is a two-lane stretch without sidewalks, curbs, or gutters and does not allow on-street parking.
After the study a 35 mile per hour speed limit was recommended and Pasco’s City Council approved the new limit at its October 16 meeting.
According to the City of Pasco, the new speed limit will be reflected in an update to Section 10.35.030 of the Pasco Municipal Code (PMC).
Pasco is currently working to let the community know about the reduced speed limit before signage is installed on November 15.
