PASCO, Wash. – Residents in Pasco are being informed about upcoming fire hydrant flushing scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.
During this process, the city warns that water may temporarily turn yellow, brown or rust-colored. This discoloration is due to natural sediments in the pipes being stirred up when the hydrants are flushed.
Despite the change in color, the water remains safe for drinking and showering. However, the city advises against using the water while it is discolored.
If residents notice a change in water color, they should run their cold water until it clears. The city also cautions that colored water can stain clothes, so it is best to ensure the water is clear before doing laundry.
For those experiencing persistent discoloration that does not clear after a few minutes, residents should call the City of Pasco at 509-545-3463.
