RICHLAND, Wash.-Parts of Wye Park and Columbia Park West are closing due to concerns over public health and safety.
The park grounds have experienced increased vandalism and illegal activities recently, including the damage of public facilities, as well as natural resources managed by the Army Corps of Engineers, according to the City of Richland.
“This closure is a necessary step to protect the park environment and ensure the safety of all visitors,” said Joe Schiessl, Deputy City Manager.
The temporary closure of portions of Wye Park and Columbia Park West are effective as of Oct. 25.
According to the City of Richland, the temporary closures will reduce the pressure on the parks and natural resources and allow the City time to do maintenance and restoration.
“We take the stewardship of our parks seriously,” said Schiessl “and we are committed to providing a safe and enjoyable environment for all residents.”
The City of Richland will continue to provide updates on maintenance, safety and when the parks may reopen online.
