RICHLAND, Wash.-Some Richland School District paraeducator jobs are expected to be cut this week as the district faces a potential budget shortfall.
According to the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, the RSD is facing a budget problem.
An RSD paraeducator who spoke to NonStop Local on the condition of anonymity confirmed that the district does plan to begin laying off, or reassigning basic education paraeducators, starting Tuesday, Oct. 29.
Basic education paraeducators will reportedly be contacted in order of seniority with the district and given the option of accepting a new position in the district’s special education program.
Special education paraeducator positions would reportedly not be affected by the layoffs.
According to documents from the paraeducator who spoke with NonStop Local, if a paraeducator chooses not to accept reassignment to the special education program, then they will be laid off due to the fact that they had been offered a position by the RSD.
NonStop Local reached out to the RSD for this story and is waiting to hear back.
