KENNEWICK, Wash.-The owner of two pit bulls that attacked a woman in her Kennewick home in September is now being charged in Benton County Superior Court.
According to court documents, Sara Amilia Madrigal, 34, of Kennewick is facing a count of a dangerous dog attack causing severe injury or death.
Two pit bulls owned by Madrigal attacked a smaller dog in an unincorporated area of Kennewick near W. Victoria Ave. and N. Kellogg on Sept. 20.
Witnesses at the scene explained that when Billene “Billi” Cameron, the owner of the smaller dog intervened, the pit bulls attacked her and even followed her into her home.
According to court documents, video later confirmed the witness accounts and the pit bulls were eventually detained by Benton County Sheriff’s Deputies. Emergency first aid, including a tourniquet, was administered to Cameron and she was transported to Kadlec Hospital for her injuries, where she later died.
Following an autopsy, Medical Examiners determined that she died from medical complications suffered during efforts to treat her for her injuries.
According to the court documents Cameron had recently experienced medical issues and was on blood-thinners.
Madrigal admitted that the pit bulls were hers and went on to admit that she kept them in her backyard because she did not feel safe with them in the house with kids and other pets.
According to court documents the pit bulls belonged to Madrigal’s ex boyfriend, but she kept them when the couple broke up, even though they had been deemed “dangerous” after a previous attack on a person in 2021.
Madrigal’s next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 20.
