Oregon State Police looking for Umatilla County elk poachers

UMATILLA COUNTY, Ore.-The Fish and Wildlife division of the Oregon State Police is asking for help from the public in identifying whoever is responsible for the take and waste of multiple cow elk in Umatilla County.

Fish and Wildlife Troopers first received reports of two dead elk and three piles of guts from other dead elk near Sugar Bowl Ridge near Heppner on Dec. 29.

The five elk had all been shot and the two cow elk left to waste, according to the OSP.

Anyone with any information on the case or who has any video of the area at the time is encouraged to contact OSP dispatch at 1-800-452-7888, *OSP (*677), or via email at TIP@osp.oregon.gov and reference case number: SP23409986.

The Turn In Poachers (TIP) program run by the OSP, Fish and Wildlife, the Oregon Hunters Association and various other outdoor and wildlife organizations offers cash rewards for information leading to the arrest for the unlawful waste of animals.

According to the OSP, rewards for information on elk wasting can be as much as $1,000.
