One hospitalized after hit-and-run south of Mattawa

BENTON COUNTY, Wash.-One person was hospitalized after a hit-and-run crash south of Mattawa on the evening of Sept. 12.

Washington State Patrol Troopers responded to the crash on SR 24 about 14 miles south of Mattawa around 5:30 p.m.

SR 24 was closed in both directions south of the Vernita Bridge for about an hour and a half after the crash, but has since reopened, according to the Department of Transportation.

According to the WSP, a black Dodge, driven by a 60-year-old Spokane man, was eastbound near milepost 43 when they made a U-turn and hit a BMW in the westbound lane.

The driver suspected of causing the crash, a 60-year-old Spokane man then ran from the scene.

The driver of the BMW, a 24-year-old Prosser man was transported to Kadlec Hospital after the crash, according to the WSP.

The crash is still under investigation and charges could be pending against the driver who ran from the scene.
