One dead after July 6 collision on I-82 near Union Gap, five injured

UNION GAP, Wash.- One woman is dead after a two-car crash on I-82 injured five people, including four teenagers on Saturday, July 6 near Union Gap.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Paula Winnier, 73, was driving eastbound on I-82 and swerved off the highway near milepost 38 with four teenagers in her car.

Winnier hit a 24-year-old driver traveling westbound on I-82.

The 24-year-old driver of the hit vehicle and the four teenagers, ages 13, 13, 16 and 17, were taken to Multicare Yakima Memorial Hospital.

The Winnier was transported to Harborview Medical after the collision.

Winnier died on July 19 at Harborview Medical.

WSP and emergency responders closed the highway for over an hour. The cause of the crash is unknown and officials do not believe drugs and alcohol were involved.
