FINLEY, Wash.-One person died in an early morning house fire in the Finley area on the morning of July 17.
When firefighters with Benton County Fire District 1 arrived at the home in the area of E. Finley Rd. and E 403 PR SE the house was burning, according to a BCFD1 social media post.
BCFD1 has confirmed that one person died in the fire. Two other people were reportedly in the home at the time of the fire, but were able to get out safely.
The Washington State Fire Marshal’s Office recently published its fire watch newsletter with year-to-date fire statistics for the state.
According to the WSFMO, there have been 35 fatalities from fires in Washington as of July 1. While there has been a spate of house fires this summer, April has been the deadliest month so far this year with 11 deaths from fire.
Of the fire-related deaths statewide, 51 percent were due to unintentional causes and working smoke detectors were present in only 23 percent of the cases where someone died in a fire, according to the WSFMO.
