Officials investigate fatal police shooting in Pasco

PASCO, Wash.- UPDATE 3:50 p.m.

Witnesses reported seeing a man with a machete before 7:30 p.m.

A nearby restaurant owner reported hearing gunshots near the building and allowed a customer, afraid for their safety, to shelter inside their establishment.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, they will lead the Special Investigation Unit.

Police fatally shoot a man wielding a machete in Pasco Thursday evening.

According to the Pasco Police Department, officers were called to a shopping center parking lot around 7 p.m. near 32nd & Court Street for a man chasing people with a machete.

Officers say police attempted to subdue the armed man with no success. An officer shot the man, who was later confirmed dead after medical attempts to save his life.

By law, a regional Special Investigations Unit will investigate the officer’s use of force.
