YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. – UPDATE Jan. 17
The Selah Police Department released the name of the officer involved in the shooting in a press release.
Officer Matthew Cramer was the officer involved, a member of the Patrol Division of the Selah Police Department.
The Yakima Valley Special Investigations Unit is still investigating the shooting. SPD is also conducting an administrative review to determine if Cramer’s actions were in line with the department’s policies and procedures.
The review is separate from the YVSIU investigation.

The Yakima Valley Special Investigations Unit is investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a burglary suspect dead on Sunday, Jan. 14.
Yakima County Sheriff’s Deputies first responded to reports of a burglary around 12:19 p.m. on the 1100 block of Ames Rd. in Yakima County.
According to a YVSIU press release, when Deputies arrived at the scene the suspect drove away, however, their car became disabled and the suspect ran.
Selah and Yakima Police, as well as the Washington State Patrol assisted and helped Deputies find the suspect in a garage on the 200 block of Johnson Rd. in Yakima County.
Law enforcement contacted the suspect in the garage, leading to a confrontation during which one Selah PD Officer fired their gun, according to the YVSIU.
First aid was administered, but was unsuccessful and the suspect died at the scene.
The YVSIU will now conduct an independent investigation of the shooting.
