BELLEVUE, Wash.-Coffee and boat racing are two uniquely Northwest things and this summer the two are combining for the first time with the U-11 racing team.
Mercurys Coffee Company announced the partnership that marks the first time in the coffee-loving, hydro-rich history of the Northwest that a coffee company has been the title sponsor of a hydroplane on May 22.
“Similar to hydroplane racing, Mercurys Coffee Co. has a rich history and a passionate following in the Pacific Northwest,” said Morgan Harris, founder of Mercurys Coffee Company. “We are excited to be part of the action and bring this sport to the forefront for new generations, not only here in Washington State, but nationally as well.”
Harris started Mercurys Coffee with a single drive-thru stand in Woodinville in 1998 and now has 12 locations throughout the Seattle area with 225 employees, according to a press release on the sponsorship.
Harris, a lifelong hydroplane fan grew up watching the boat races in Seattle and the Tri-Cities with his dad.
“We want to energize the community and bring the excitement back to this historic sport in a way that people can connect with it again,” Harris said.
The U-11 Unlimited Racing Group was founded by Scott and Shannon Raney in Cle Elum in 2011, Jamie Nilsen is the driver for the team.
