RICHLAND, Wash.-The Port of Benton will resume a railroad crossing construction project in the New Year.
Starting on Jan. 2, the Port plans to finish construction at the railroad crossings that were replaced this fall at Airport Way and Saint Street.
Work is also expected to start at the Kingsgate Way railroad crossing on that date, according to the port.
The railroad crossing projects were paid for from a $1.03 million Freight Rail Assistance Program grant through the Washington State Department of Transportation and $250,000 in port grant matching funds, according to the port.
Electronic rail equipment, wiring, and new LED lights will be installed at Airport Way, while new lighted railroad cross buck warning signage will be installed at Saint Street.
While no road closures are planned for the work on Saint Street some lane closures will be necessary during overhead light work, according to the port.
Roads around Kingsgate Way will still be open during the project with little disruption to traffic expected when single lanes are closed.
