SUNNYSIDE, Wash. – The Sunnyside School District is welcoming migrant students to is new preschool program at the Sun Valley Elementary School as part of its Strategic Plan STRONG START Priority, according to a press release.
The District worked with a team consisting of people from the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, Washington State Migrant Education, Educational Service District 105 and INSPIRE.
The team identified the funding needed, the curriculum for the program and the students eligible for the program.
Eligible students must have an active Certificate of Eligibility (COE) which verifies the student’s family’s background in migrant farm work.
“Our leadership team is proud and excited to bring this opportunity and resource to fruition,” said Sun Valley Elementary School Principal Miguel Puente. “This new offering is another step, in what we expect, will lead to further conversations on how Sunnyside School District can continue to lead and develop innovative programs to support students as they begin their academic careers as scholars.”
The new program is funded through state and federal migrant education funds provided to the Sunnyside School District by its service and support of migrant students and families.
The first day of the Migrant Pre-K Program starts on Mon., Feb. 26 at Sun Valley Elementary School.
