UMATILLA, Ore.-Umatilla’s new pedestrian footbridge will open to traffic on Monday, Dec. 23.
The City of Umatilla announced the soft opening of the bridge located at 300 Stephens Avenue that spans the Umatilla River and connects the South Hill area to downtown on Dec. 19.
“This project reflects our dedication to improving quality of life and promoting sustainable urban design,” said David Stockdale, Umatilla City Manager.
The final touches on the footbridge, including paving and handrail installation are expected to be completed in the spring, and an official ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held then, according to a City of Umatilla press release.
The new bridge completes the Trail 2 Project, part of Umatilla’s Master Trail Plan.
“We are thrilled to soft-open this new pedestrian bridge to foot traffic, providing a safe and convenient way for people to travel while enjoying the beauty of our community,” said Stockdale.
